Project AASHWAS an Assam Police Project to help the child victims of violence of Assam had organized a “SISHU SHANTI SAMAROH” at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati with a 3 (three) day long programme w.e.f. 28th Feb to 2nd March, 2009. The event was conducted as per following programmes:
About 100 nos of child beneficiaries along with their guardians of the district of Kamrup, Nalbari, Barpeta, Baksa, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Goalpara, Morigaon and Guwahati City who are receiving educational assistance from the National Foundation for Communal Harmony through project AASHWAS, arrived at Sankaradeva Kalkshetra duly escorted by the local police on 28th Feb,09 to attend in the “SISHU SHANTI SAMAROH”. It is to be noted that an amount of Rs. 750/- per month is granted by the National Foundation for Communal Harmony to each child of or below 18 years of age of families below the poverty line, and in whose household there has been a death caused by either terroristic, communal or ethnic violence. The child concerned continues to get the benefit till he or she attains the age of 18.
On arrival of the children with their guardians Project AASHWAS started the ‘Samaroh” with registration of their names and addresses. A free Medical and Health camp was organized where a team of doctors of National Rural Health Mission, Khanapara, Guwahati examined the children and the guardians. The doctors also distributed free medicines to the children & guardians as per prescription. After lunch a close interactive session was conducted where Shri G.M. Srivastava, IPS, DGP, Assam & Chairman Project Aashwas, Mrs. Sudha Srivastava, Shri B. J. Mahanta, IPS, IGP (L &O) & Nodal Officer Project Aashwas, Shri Debojit Hazarika, APS, S. P. Kamrup and other dignitaries were present. One school bag containing books, art paper, sketch pen, scale, pencil etc were distributed to each child by the Chairman of Project Aashwas. After that a Stock Taking Session was conducted by the Resource Persons who have personally interviewed each child and the mother. They also took stock of the assistance granted by the Foundation and its utilization. The Resource Persons recorded their observations in a proforma on the physical and mental health of the child and need for any further intervention. They also recorded grievances of the guardians. After that the children and guardians had attended an Ice breaking and meditation session which was conducted by Art of living, Guwahati. From 2030 hrs the child beneficiaries witnessed the Light and Sound show at the Kalakshetra.
In the early morning of 1st March,2009 the children and guardians had attended a meditation session. After breakfast an Interactive and counselling session was conducted by Smti Sudha Srivastava, Dr. Jayanta Das , Sri Rajiv Kr. Bora, IAS, Home Commissioner, Sri Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Sri Subrata Chakraborty & team 6) Sri Anubhab Parashar & his team ,Sri Nayan Prasad, Mr. Wasbir Hussain Smti Tapati Baruah Kashyap as Resource Persons.. The session started with ice-breaking exercises through games, jokes and music etc. An audio-visual presentation was also used to impress the families to acquire an attitude helpful to face hazards of life. The sessions for both children and guardian were conducted separately. Noted psychiatrist Dr. Jayanta Das gave a valuable lecture on child issues and interacted with the child beneficiaries and the guardians. Dr. Das primarily addressed the issues of suffering and trauma due to the killing of the near and dear ones of the children.
After lunch there was an open session where Sri Rongbong Terang , President, Asom Sahitya Sabha , Shri G.M. Srivastava, IPS, DGP, Assam, Hon’ble Justice A. Ansari, Shri Subash Ch. Das, IAS, Principal Secy, Home. Sri J.S. Rawat, Asstt. Secretary, NFCH, MHA, New Delhi were present. 3 (three) children whose parents were killed in incidents of violence gave a lecture during the function. Their words brought tears to the eyes of the audience. Thereafter Sri Rongbong Terang , President, Asom Sahitya Sabha, released a book entitled “Uni-Sourang” published by ‘AASHWAS’. The other dignitaries also deliberated lectures on child issues. Shri J. S Raweat, Asstt. Secretary, National Foundation for Communal Harmony, New Delhi handed over 5 nos of cheque to the DGP, Assam & Chairman, Project Aashwas which was granted by the Foundation as financial assistance in respect of the children of the district of Baksa, Barpeta,.Dhubri, Kokrajhar and Chirang district for further period of one year. The open session ended with vote of thanks by Sri Debojit Hazarika, S.P. Kamrup. . From 1730 hrs a silent procession was organised from the Guwahati City College to Sankaradeva Kalakshetra. From 1800 hrs a programme called “SANKALPA SANDHYA” was inaugurated by Shri Ataur Rahman, retired Director General of Police, Assam. Shri H. K. Deka, Retired DGP, Assam and Shri G.M. Srivastava, IPS DGP, Assam had also attended the programme. A citation on Shri H. K. Deka retired DGP, Assam was read over by Shri N. C. Gogoi, DSP. Shri Baharul Islam noted film actor performed a drama entitled “Nahar and Bakhar” written by Smt Swapnali Mahanta where a tragic story was narrated. The story was about a widow mother and her two sons. Her one son was joined in ULFA and another son joined in police. Later her ULFA son was shot death by police and her police son was killed by ULFA. Now only widow mother is alive spending her days with tears.
At the end of the function there was an oath taken by all the people gathered in the function that henceforth they will not do any thing that would harm the interest of the children of Assam.
On 2nd March, 2009 the children along with guardians were taken to Accoloand, Guwahati where they enjoyed water sports. After that the participants were escorted back to their respective destination by the local District Police.
