ASSAM POLICE DAY
Guwahati 29 September, 2008 :

Shri Tarun Gogoi, Chief Minister of Assam will be the Chief Guest in the ceremonial function of Assam Police Day – 2008, to be held at 4th Assam Police Battalion HQ Kahilipara on Oct 1, 2008 from 8-30 A.M.

The Assam Police Day is being celebrated on Oct 1 every year to mark the day on which first Assam Police Officer Shri K.R.Choudhury took over as the Chief of Assam Police in 1951.

The programme of ceremonial function includes March Past, distribution of Medals, Scholarship etc. to the children of Police personnel.

The Assam Police Wives Welfare Association is organizing a ‘Cultural Nite’ for the first time to celebrate Assam Police Day-2008, at Pragyotika, ITA Cultural Centre, Machkhowa on Sept 30, 2008 at 6-30 P.M. Chief Minister, Assam will grace the occasion as Chief Guest.

The celebration of Assam Police Day has already started with ‘COPQUEST’ a state level quiz competition which was held at Rabindra Bhawan on Sept’ 28, 2008. The competition was held in two categories- Quizling for school students and X-Quiz Me was open for all. The results of the competition are as follows- Quizling- 1st- Deepjyoti Deka and Shakya Shamik Kar Khound of Nalbari College, 2nd – Devaditya Bhattacharjya and Uddipan Sarma of City Faculty, 3rd – Angshuman Hazarika and Saurav Lakshmani of Sanskriti The Gurukul. The best Audience prize had gone to Nibir Dutta and Dhritiman Deka. X-Quiz Me- 1st- Meet Choudhury and Deepjyoti Deka, 2nd – Amrit Pratim Chetia and Bidyut Bikash Bailung, 3rd – Abhra Das and Biswajit Saikia. Best Audience prize to Parikshit Pegu. Shri Dilip Bora, Inspector General of Police (CID), Assam and Shri R N Mathur, Director General of Police, Assam distributed the prizes to the respective winners.

CHIEF MINISTER'S MEDAL TO POLICE OFFICERS ON THE OCCASION OF INDEPENDENCE DAY' 2008.
Guwahati 14 August, 2008 :

The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam is pleased to award the Chief Minister's Medal for Out-Standing Service on the occasion of Independence Day' 2008 to the following Police Officers. The recepients will be presented Medals by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam at Latasil Field, Guwahati on the Independence Day' 2008 Celebration Ceremony on 15-8-2008 at 9 am. Award carries one Medal, one Certificate and Rs.10,000/-only cash.

CLARIFICATION
Guwahati 11 August, 2008 :

          Attention of the Assam Police has been drawn to some reports occurring in a section of the Press and the Media attributing some statements to the Director General of Police, Assam about Madrassas being used for unlawful purposes. In this connection, the Assam Police would like to clarify that the Director General of Police, Assam has not made any such statement in the Press and all such matter occurred in the Press and the Media are erroneous.

A.K. Mallick died
Guwahati 2 August, 2008 : Shri Anil Kumar Mallick, IPS Additional Director General of Police and Director, State Fire Service Oraganisation died today morning at GNRC Hospital following protracted illness. He was 51.
  An Indian Police Service officer of 1979 batch, Mallick served Assam Police in different capacities with distinction since his joining. During his career spanning 29 years of service, he served as ASP Sivasagar, SDPO Barpeta, Addl. SP Kamrup, Commandant 5th APBn, SP (SB), SP Jorhat, Commandant 4th APBn, SP Dibrugarh, IGP (OSD), IGP APHC, and IGP Border. He was in charge of security during the 33rd National Games, held in Feb’ 2007 in Guwahati. He had been serving as Director, State Fire Service Organisation since May, 2007 till his death. He was on deputation for 14 years after sad demise of his wife, killed by ULFA extremists on Dibrugarh-Chabua road on 10th Sept,1989 while Shri Mallick was S.P Dibrugarh.
  A man of amiable disposition, extremely hard working, strict disciplinarian and proven integrity, Mallick never compromised with his principles all throughout his career.
  Shri R.N. Mathur, Director General of Police, Assam, Shri S.C Das, Principal Secretary, Home & Political, and all senior officers and all ranks of Assam Police went to his official residence at Assam Police Housing Complex to pay their last respect to the departed soul.
  Mallick was decorated with Police Medal for Meritorious service on Republic Day, 2005.
