ROAD SAFETY WEEK 2010
ACTIVITIES TAKEN UP BY GUWAHATI TRAFFIC POLICE DURING ROAD SAFETY WEEK WEF 1ST TO 7TH JANUARY 1010:
The Road Safety Week 2010 was celebrated in Guwahati city from 1st January to 7th January 2010 in a befitting manner to bring about awareness amongst the road users about road safety in co-cordination with Transport Department, Govt. of Assam and some NGOs like Aakriti, Lions Club of Gauhati and various Sponsoring companies. The following traffic awareness programmes were undertaken during the week.

At the begining of the week on 1st January 2010 messages were sent by Hon'ble Chief Minister, Assam, Transport Minister, Assam, Cheif Secratary, Assam, Director General of Police, Assam. The mobile operatos also sent messages on road safety to its subscribers throughout the week begining 1st January 2010.

As a part of road safety week, Street Plays were also organised on road safety by NGO Aakriti throughout the week at different places of Guwahati city and these plays had a good impact on the road users. A Phone In Programme on road safety was also conducted by the 93.5 RED FM in which Shri P.Pujari, SP(Traffic), City Guwahati took part.

An eye check up and blood grouping camp for the drivers and handyman was also organised at Adabari Bus Stand on 3rd Jan' 2010 where about 160 nos. of drivers and handyman were exmined. The programme was organised by in co-ordination with Lions Club of Guwahati and Lions Eye Hospital, Guwahati

A road safety awarness camp for drivers and handyman etc was also organised at DTO's Office campus with Transport Department/ EMRI 108 etc. on 4th Jan' 2010.

On 5th January 2010, a procession was also taken out from Veterinary field Khanapara via G S Raod, RGB Road, GNB Road, MG Road, DG Road and live demonstration was organised by EMRI 108 on first AID to be given after road accident at Veterinary field Khanapara before the procession started. The procession was flagged off by Shri S Barua, IAS, Commissioner of Transport and all the Transport Association of Guwahati City took part in the procession.

A general public meeting on Road Safety Week 2010 was also conducted at ISBT on 06-01-2010 from 10 am where all Transport Association, School students, participating agancies in road safety week programme took part. Hon'ble Transport Minister, Assam along with other dignitaries also graced the occasion.

To bring about awareness about Road Safety amongst the school children a daylong programme was organised at South Point School on 7th January 2010. A number of activities were undertaken by the children on the occasion including Quiz, drrama etc. amongst the students of different schools of Guwahati. EMRI 108 also participated and gave demonstatrion of their activities.

In addition to the above, distribution of leaflets, handbills and postering on road safety week went on throughout the week.
